Uniform Requirements

Students must wear one of two approved uniform options to all classes. White Gi pants and either a Gi jacket or a Family Karate, Project: STRONG t-shirt must be worn in class along with your belt.

No socks or shoes are allowed on the training surfaces.  All students must remove jewelry before class.  Absolutely no sharp objects (i.e., safety pins, sewing pins) on the mats.

Optional Uniform Patch

A Family Karate Patch may optionally be worn on any Gi Jacket.  The patch should be worn on the center right side of the gi and level with the ground when the gi jacket is tied.

I am looking for new sparring gear, gi pants or gi jackets. Where can I find those?

Visit our Century Martial Arts Store for all of your sparring gear and gi needs.

Why do some Black Belts wear black gi pants?

Black gi pants indicate that a Black Belt has completed our instructor training and certification process.  An instructor may wear gi black pants when teaching classes.

Ground Defense/Jiu Jitsu

For Teen/Adult students participating in our ground defense/jiu jitsu program, a standard martial arts gi is not recommended.  We recommend a jiu-jitsu style gi, which is made of a thicker material designed to withstand the demands of groundwork.  This style gi may be found on our Century store under the "For Ground Defense Class Only" section or online from alternative vendors.  There are no GI color requirements for this class.  A student may wear a gi of any color of their choice as long as it is appropriate.

A jiu-jitsu style white belt will be worn unless a previous rank has been earned in a recognized jiu-jitsu program.
